OkMOM 2017 Delivers Dental Care in Woodward

Oklahoma dental professionals volunteered their time and expertise to make the eighth annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy (OkMOM) possible. The 2017 OkMOM event was staged February 3-4 at the Woodward County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Woodward, Oklahoma. OkMOM is a two-day clinic designed to meet the critical needs of dental patients of all ages by providing free dental care to those who would not otherwise be able to afford it. Major funding is provided by Delta Dental of Oklahoma through its Oral Health Foundation, which co-produces the annual event in conjunction with the Oklahoma Dental Association and the Oklahoma Dental Foundation.

Nearly 40 Delta Dental employees volunteering for the event were able to witness the impact free dental care has on needy Oklahomans. Over the course of the two-day free dental clinic, volunteers performed over 10,000 treatments valued at more than $1.3 million to 1,322 patients.

The 2018 OkMOM will be held February 2-3 in Durant. Save the date!

2016 Oklahoma Mission of Mercy in Oklahoma City

On February 5 and 6, the Cox Convention Center was bustling with activity from the 7th Annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy (OkMOM). Bright sunshine and mild temperatures welcomed the event back to Oklahoma City. Over the course of the two-day event, more than 1,500 patients were treated with over $1.7 million in donated dental services.

The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation has partnered with the Oklahoma Dental Association and Oklahoma Dental Foundation to conduct seven OkMOMs since 2010. Thanks to thousands of volunteers and a great deal of support from local businesses in each community, over 10,000 patients have been served to date!

OkMOM Returned to Tulsa in February 2015

On February 6 and 7, the Cox Business Center was bustling with activity from the 6th Annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy (OkMOM). Warm weather and bright sunshine welcomed the event back to Tulsa, the location of the very first OkMOM event. Over the course of the two-day event, more than 1,600 patients were treated with over $1.5 million in donated dental services.

Delta Dental is proud to have partnered with the Oklahoma Dental Association and Oklahoma Dental Foundation for the past six OkMOM events. In addition to financially supporting the event, Delta Dental sent 48 staff members to volunteer in 2015. OkMOM is a solid reminder of why we started the oral health foundation – so great the need and so inspirational is the volunteer spirit.

2014 OkMOM Sets Records in Enid

On Feb. 7 and 8, the Chisholm Trail Expo Center in Enid welcomed in the 2014 Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, a two-day free dental clinic. Despite frosty weather and rough road conditions across the state, the event was a great success. Almost 1,500 patients, including more than 200 transported from the panhandle area via church busses, were treated.

Delta Dental is proud to have partnered with the Oklahoma Dental Association and Oklahoma Dental Foundation for the past five OkMOM events. Mark your calendar for the 2015 OkMOM, which is scheduled for Feb. 6 and 7 in Tulsa. Details can be found at www.okmom.org.

OkMOM Serves Lawton in 2013

The Oklahoma Mission of Mercy is one of the highlights of the year for Delta Dental of Oklahoma employees because it gives us the opportunity not only to serve patients in need but to serve side by side with so many great volunteer dental professionals. For the 2013 OkMOM, 35 DDOK employees joined the efforts of more than 1,800 volunteers to make the Lawton OkMOM an absolute success – providing 1,786 patients with dental care valued at over $1.1 million.

Delta Dental is proud to have partnered with the Oklahoma Dental Association and Oklahoma Dental Foundation as co-sponsors for the past four OkMOM events. OkMOM is a solid reminder of why we started the oral health foundation 15 years ago – so great is the need and so inspirational is the volunteer spirit.

2012 OkMOM Held in McAlester

In addition to serving 1,733 patients with free dental care valued at more than $1.1 million, the third annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy will be remembered for the warm hospitality and amazing home cooking provided by the local McAlester volunteers!

McAlester truly rolled out the red carpet for the first OkMOM event to be held in a rural area. The two-day, volunteer clinic was held February 3 and 4, 2012, at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester. It was co-sponsored by the Oklahoma Dental Association, the Oklahoma Dental Foundation, and the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation, which provided $100,000 in funding for the event. Additionally, several businesses and local organizations provided donations and discounts.

“We are grateful to the 1,700 general and dental professional volunteers, many of whom traveled to McAlester from throughout the state, who donated their time and skills to make Oklahoma’s first rural Mission of Mercy a great success,” said John Gladden, CEO and president of Delta Dental of Oklahoma.

“Supporting the efforts of volunteer dental professionals and meeting the needs of the underserved are at the very heart of our Oral Health Foundation’s mission.”

The next OkMOM is scheduled for February 1-2, 2013 in Lawton. Volunteer registration will open in October.

2011 OkMOM a Big Success in OKC

The second annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, held February 4-5 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, was a tremendous success despite a February 1st blizzard that coated the state in ice and snow. Thanks to 1,400 dental professionals and other volunteers, the event provided free dental care to 2,201 Oklahomans in need, tying the national record for the most patients ever served at a Mission of Mercy. The total value of the 9,000 dental procedures donated is more than $1.1 million.

Organized by the Oklahoma Dental Association, OkMOM 2011 was funded by a $150,000 grant from the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation. The Oklahoma Dental Foundation served as the fiscal sponsor and dozens of Oklahoma businesses donated products and services to make the event possible.

The next Oklahoma Mission of Mercy will be held February 3-4, 2012, in McAlester. For details, visit www.OkMOM.org.

2010 OkMOM - Tulsa
ODA & Delta Dental Partner for Largest Dental Event in State's History

At 5 a.m. on February 5th, 2010 there was a long line at Tulsa's Convention Center. It wasn't for a concert, conference, or school volleyball tournament but for a much needed trip to the dentist.

More than 1,400 people lined up on day one of the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy (OkMOM) event. Organized by the Oklahoma Dental Association, OkMOM was funded by a $150,000 grant from the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation.

“Our charitable foundation continually seeks ways to support dental professionals willing to provide their specialized talents. OkMOM was a perfect marriage of resources and ability and we are very grateful to the dentists, dental assistants and hygienists for donating their skills to such a great cause. Helping those with the greatest need of care was really a sight to behold,” said John Gladden, CEO and President of Delta Dental of Oklahoma.

OkMOM was staffed by more than 1,300 volunteers who worked long hours to deliver this vital care. The clinic was available on a first come, first serve basis for those in need of quality dental care they simply couldn't afford. Many arrived two days in advance and braved the cold to make sure they received help.

The clinic offered extractions, fillings, cleanings and root canals in addition to dental education and medical screenings. The goal was to treat 1,600 people on that Friday and Saturday. But with everyone pulling together, they actually treated 1805 patients and performed almost 7,000 procedures. Additionally, dozens of sponsoring businesses donated food, supplies and materials.

“OkMOM was a huge success and I'm proud that due to our not-for-profit status, the Delta Dental Foundation is able to realize its mission and fund these types of events that really change people's lives." said Gladden.

Future OkMOM events are planned for 2011 in Oklahoma City and 2012 in McAlester.
